Elli Leventaki is an art historian, curator, and researcher.
She is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Theory and History of Art of the Athens School of Fine Arts, where she maps the gender aspect of exhibitions that took place in Greece at the beginning of the 20th century. In parallel, she is involved in exhibitions, art projects, and cultural initiatives, looking to address sociopolitical correlations within the field of contemporary art and critically comment on the invisible structures and principles of the Artworld. Elli is interested in contesting historically dominant narratives and stereotypic notions, especially those deriving from national and/or patriarchal contexts, while aspiring to advocate for gender equality through culture and engage in discourses on art-based labour.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Art Theory, and a Master’s degree in Art History and Curating, both from the Fine Arts Department of the University of Ioannina, Greece, as well as a diploma in Adult and Continuous Education from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.
Elli has collaborated with various institutions, cultural spaces, festivals, and art programs over the years. She has also been writing art-related texts for exhibition catalogues and scientific purposes and regularly participating in conferences and lectures in Greece and abroad. She is the Secretary General of AICA Hellas (2024-2027), a member of the Association of Greek Art Historians, ICOM, the Council of Galeria Podbrzezie in Krakow, Poland, and the ELHN Working Group on Feminist Labour History and Precarious Labour.
